About us
Timeless ideas for everyday life
The Finger Bowl publishes easy-to-read articles on life, philosophy, spirituality, discipline and human nature: ideas that stay useful long after you’ve read them.
Why we started The Finger Bowl
The internet is full of noise: breaking news, hot takes and advice that’s forgotten by next week. We wanted to create a calmer corner of the web, a place to read something thoughtful, learn how your mind works, and pick up one small idea that makes life a little better.
Our articles are evergreen: they focus on lasting ideas, not headlines. Whether it’s a 2,000-year-old Stoic insight or a well-known finding from psychology, we explain it simply and show how to use it in daily life.
What we write about
Life
Relationships, work, ageing, solitude, ambition, change, failure and starting over.
Philosophy

Spirituality
Consciousness, meditation, awareness, devotion, detachment and the inner life.
Discipline
Habits, consistency, self-control, attention, delayed gratification and routines.
Human Nature
Behaviour, ego, approval, fear, desire, attachment, vulnerability and our many contradictions.
Books & Ideas
Book essays, reading notes, authors and the ideas we discover through books.
Reflections
Personal observations, experiences, lessons, questions and more intimate writing.
What we stand for
- Original writing. Every article on The Finger Bowl is written for this site. We don’t copy or republish other websites’ content.
- Accuracy over hype. When we mention research, we describe it fairly and avoid exaggerated claims or “miracle” promises.
- Respect for all traditions. We explore spiritual and philosophical ideas from many cultures with curiosity and respect.
- Practical and kind. Every article aims to leave you with something simple you can try, without judgement.
